The trail will be separated from vehicular traffic and include separated grade crossings of major streets. This will require the construction of retaining walls along hillsides and road fills, bridges over major streets, and textured, signalized minor street crossings. The corridor will include landscaping and preservation of existing open space to create a greenway. "Rails with Trails" development in the UTA Sugar House Spur corridor will require fencing and safety barriers. Development of the 1300 East Street Crossing, based on a selected winning design from a National Endowment for the Arts Design Competition, will include a decorative plaza within Sugar House Park and other art elements. A comprehensive system of directional signs is planned to inform trail users.
There will be opportunities for interpretive exhibits about the natural environment and history of the corridor.
Salt Lake County is partnering with the Utah Transit Authority to design and construct an attached trail segment to the West Valley light rail tracks bridge over the Roper Rail yard.
